Iceland Poppy Papaver Nudicaule is a hardy, short-lived perennial that is more often grown as biennial. Iceland Poppy seeds can be started indoors in winter or directly outdoors in spring or fall. Also called Arctic Poppy, this Papaver Nudicaule variety produces mix of radiant white, yellow, pinkish-coral, or orange flowers with silky petals that are individually isolated on upright hairy flowering stems. Depending on climate Iceland Poppy can bloom in spring, summer, or fall, and its large, bowl-shaped flowers attract butterflies and bees.

Iceland Poppy is a favorite garden plant in the cool coastal climate of the Pacific states. Iceland Poppy produces dazzling splashes of color when planted in mass, and this showy poppy plant is also widely grown in borders, rock and alpine gardens, and containers. Papaver Nudicaule have to be just lightly pressed into the soil and kept moist until germination. Once established Iceland Poppy tolerates drought and grows best in full sun or partial shade and fertile, normal or sandy, dry or medium moist, well drained soil. Arctic Poppies are superb cut flowers that can last up to a week, if the flowers are cut in bud and the stalk tip scalded in boiling water before being placed in a vase.
