Chamomile Roman Chamaemelum Nobile is a herbaceous, evergreen, perennial herb native to Europe. Roman Chamomile seeds germinate fast, and this compact flower is often grown as a lawn substitute, because the plant has mat-forming, spreading, low to the ground growth habit and features aromatic, fern-like foliage that reaches only 3-6 inches in height. The creeping flower stems spread and root themselves easily creating a dense carpet of herbal ground cover that blocks weeds from growing. Chamomile produces masses of small, fragrant, daisy-like flowers with white petals and bright-yellow centers. The bloom period is throughout the summer and into early fall.

Chamomile Roman is one of the best ground covers, and the plant tolerates light foot traffic, so it can be grown between stepping stones. Chamomile is a popular flowering herb for growing in herb gardens and looks outstanding in rock gardens. Chamaemelum Nobile seeds is easy to grow, and once established the plant can tolerate some drought. Chamomile prefers to grow in full sun or partial shade, and well-drained, sandy soil, but it adapts easily to a wide range of soils. Chamomile is well known as a medicinal herb, and its dried flower heads are used to make chamomile tea that has been a folk medicine remedy for centuries.
