Foxtail Barley Hordeum Jubatum is a short-lived, evergreen perennial grass native to North America. Foxtail Barley seeds are very easy to germinate, and also commonly called Squirrel Tail Grass, this clamping ornamental grass is very popular because of its highly attractive spiky flower heads that features protruding from the spikes silky looking needles, or awns which are green or purplish in color during flowering period, but when Foxtail Barley matures and features seeds the feathery flower spikes change the color to red-brown.

Foxtail Barley looks beautiful growing in clusters, and this ornamental grass is a fantastic choice for decorating borders, containers, pots, rock gardens, and flower beds. Hordeum Jubatum seeds can be sown directly in spring or fall, and once established the drought tolerant Foxtail Barley adapts to a wide range of soil conditions including salty and dry soils. Squirrel Tail Grass makes a great cut flower for fresh or dried floral arrangements.
